Nurse Call System

All modern hospitals are expected to have very reliable nurse-call systems, especially those who do not have close family members to attend to their needs for care and comfort during their stay in hospital, come to rely for the same on the hospital’s nursing staff. In the absence of which, the recovery of such patients is known to become more difficult and sometimes also delayed. Medisystem nurse-call system is based around a very solid network architecture based on known & reliable industrial protocols. Cat-5 network cable is employed throughout. Clear cabling guidelines are furnished by Medisystem for every single installation.

Nurse-call system is based around a very solid network architecture based on known & reliable industrial protocols. Cat-5 network cable is employed throughout. Clear cabling guidelines are furnished by Medisystem for every single installation in the more elaborate systems the nurse-stations are themselves looped together into a second network. Such a network enables features like the hospital wide Code-Blue alert. Nurse Call response monitoring (NCRM) and also SMS delivery of alerts.

The central display unit is always placed on the nurse-station countertop, or on an adjacent wall at a suitable height for easy visibility to the nurse. The right hand side shows the time of day. The rest of the screen displays the calling bed numbers, each followed by a hyphen and an alpha code indicating the type of call. The lower message line scrolls prompts and additional calls if any.

The Bed Unit is mounted behind the bed either directly on the wall or on the bed-head panel. It always displays the call status. It also enables the nurse to initiate a help call for further assistance of a Code-Blue alert if the situation so requires. Reset of any call from a given bed line, can only be effected from the Bed Unit. The patient handset is linked to the call system through the bed unit, it carry’s both-call buttons as well as indicator lamps.

Medisystem handsets are versatile. Besides the normal nurse-call button, they can be supplied with several additional facilities --- Multi-Call for ward attendant request, Multi-Function to enable convenience switching of lamps and fans and Universal to provide for a cordless TV remote control as well. The Medisystem nurse call system has provision for two types of Emergency Alert units for calls initiated from within the toilet. The unit shown alongside is mounted adjacent to the water closet. Pull Cord units mountable within the shower area can also be supplied. Calls originating from within a toilet are always treated as distress calls of high priority and are expected to be attended immediately.

The Door Display unit is an especially useful addition to the system. It is always mounted beside the door frame at room entrance. Call status is clearly visible throughout the hospital corridor. An important additional feature of the Medisystem Nurse call system is that the nurse can register her presence in the calling room just by pressing on the nurse icon conveniently located on the unit face plate.

The Medisystem Nurse Call System has several special features which distinguish it from most of the traditional and also from several contemporary systems on the market today.

Principal among these are:

  • It has no mechanically troublesome parts like relays, ringers, etc..
  • On call, the nurse is alerted with gentle, tinkle-chime and a flashing display of the correct bed number – no harsh buzzers.
  • Once the call is registered, the patient cannot misuse the system by continuous or repeated pressing the call button.
  • The patient receives an acknowledgment from the nurse and is thus reassured.
  • The nurse is automatically reminded about any unattended calls.
  • Each call can be reset only from the patient’s bedside, so no call goes unattended.
  • Nurse presence in the patient’s room is also registered so that the visiting physician can easily locate where the nurse is present.
  • A patient-nurse intercom is available on option.
  • The system works on low DC voltages, which are absolutely safe for patients or staff.
  • The system can be configured with great flexibility being designed in modular blocks of 8, 16, 24, 32, 40 or 48 lines.
  • The hospital-wide Code-Blue Alert feature, if selected, is useful in the case of a patient in critical condition, where the nurse cannot leave the patient and needs the immediate help of a trained medical rescue team (who are trained to attend such types of calls).
  • Computerized Response Monitoring allows the tracking, Record and Audit of all call traffic to nurse stations and comes equipped with the feature of displaying an alert on the matron’s desk if the call is not attended in the prescribed time limit.
  • An SMS facility is available on option, in case the rescue team or the physician needs to be alerted during an emergency.
